Am Anfang war der Traum von einem Leben als Maler, frei und ungebunden. Aber das Leben ist nicht so, es möchte bezahlt werden. Grafikdesign versprach, wenigstens den Zeichenstift in der Hand behalten zu können, und so entstand aus einer minimalistischen Grundhaltung minus / büro für gestaltung. Das Kürzel m-bfg lebt weiter, heißt jetzt aber manfred-back for good, denn die Kreise schließen sich; es wird wieder gemalt.
In the beginning there was the dream of a life as a painter, free and unbound. But life is not like that, it wants to be paid for. Graphic design promised to at least be able to keep the drawing pen in hand, and so minus / büro für gestaltung was born from a minimalist attitude. The abbreviation m-bfg lives on, but now stands for manfred-back for good, because the circles are closing; I am back to painting.

Neben der angewandten Kunst existierte aber "richtige" Kunst weiter und ließ Gedanken kreisen; ich hörte Musik - Rock, Blues, Folk in der Hauptsache, und auch das hatte Folgen. Dazu interessante Lektüre und offene Augen – das waren wohl die Samen der Früchte die jetzt ernten kann.
Pinsel, Staffelei und Farbe benutze ich heute nicht mehr. Computerprogramme stellen Pinsel und Farbe digital zur Verfügung, ein Monitor macht die digitale Malerei sichtbar, und ein Drucker liefert das Bild, das man ganz traditionell an die Wand hängen kann. Die Drucke entstehen im hochwertigen Giclee-Druckverfahren, sind auf zwanzig Exemplare limitiert und haben das Format 30cmx30cm, entsprechend einer Langspielplattenhülle. Das ist natürlich ein Verweis auf die Musik, die auf die eine oder andere Weise Thema meiner Bilder ist; es ist aber auch ein Format, das sich mit meinen Malwerkzeugen gut bearbeiten läßt.
Alongside applied arts, "real" art remained in coexistence and allowed ideas to circulate. I enjoyed listening to various genres of music, mainly rock, blues, and folk, which had a significant impact on me. Reading informative material and staying observant planted seeds that I am now reaping the benefits of.
I no longer use brushes, easels, or paint. Nowadays, I create my artwork digitally using computer programs that provide digital brushes and paint. A monitor makes the digital painting visible, and a printer delivers the picture that can be hung on the wall in the traditional way. The prints are created using the high-quality giclee printing process, are limited to twenty copies, and have the format 30cmx30cm, corresponding to a long-playing record sleeve. This format is not only a reference to music, which is often the subject of my artwork, but also a size that is easy to edit using my painting tools.

Digitale Malerei - Kunst oder nur Technik ohne Seele ?
Natürlich ist digitale Malerei immer noch Malerei, funktioniert aber anders.
Alles dreht sich um den Begriff Digit. Das ist eine simple Information wie ja oder nein, 0 oder 1, entsprechend an oder aus im elektrischen / elektronischen Umfeld, in dem wir uns bewegen. Ein Digit ist also entweder die Information an oder aus. Mehrere Digits bilden Informationsketten und können zum Beispiel die Farbe Rot darstellen. Solche Informationen können gespeichert oder weitergegeben werden.Wann immer also solche Digits ins Spiel kommen, haben wir es mit digitalen Prozessen zu tun.
Mehr müssen wir nicht wissen. Wichtig ist das Wissen um die Zerlegbarkeit von Informationen in kleinste Bestandteile; das macht sie transferierbar und, das ist für Künstler besonders verlockend, manipulierbar.
Ein digitaler Pinsel, der einem normalen Pinsel ähnelt und auch so gehalten wird, verteilt auf einer dafür sensiblen Fläche digitale Informationen, z.B. über die Farbe. die dann auf einem Monitor sichtbar werden. Ein Bildbearbeitungsprogramm steuert das Ganze.

Die digitale Umgebung, die den Malprozess ermöglicht, informiert darüber hinaus darüber, was einem in den Sinn kommt, bietet Vergleichsbilder und bietet auch Musik als Inspirationsquelle.
Und das alles in einem Tempo, das die Kreativität wie ein Booster freisetzt. Es gibt Antworten auf Fragen, die vielleicht noch nie gestellt wurden. Kunst forscht, analysiert, vergleicht und visualisiert und sie verfügt nun über ein neues Werkzeug, dessen Möglichkeiten noch nicht vollständig ausgeschöpft sind.

Of course, digital painting is still painting, but it works differently.
